Juan Santamaria – San Jose

April 11
Location: Costa Rica

Parades through the city with local student bands and lots of music, this holiday celebrates a peasant hero of Costa Rica who burned down a structure housing Spanish imperialists. Celebrated on the same day, April 11th, every year (and the week surrounding it), Juan Santamaria is surely the Costa Rican version of a heroes welcome home. The place to be in San Jose is definitely Alajuela. Sure to be a good time, you can never have too much Costa Rican music!
