April Fair - Seville

From: April 20 To April 25
Location: Spain

April Fair Sevilla SpainIn a tradition dating back to 1846, Sevilla kicks off the April Fair. Originated by two entrepreneurs aiming to increase trade and agriculture, this massive festival is still generating revenue as it's evolved into one of Spain's largest events. The fair officially begins on Monday at the stroke of midnight with the lighting of half a million lanterns around the main gate located just south of Los Remedios quarter, opposite of the Maria Luisa park. The festival comes to a close the following Sunday, also at midnight, with a tremendous firework show engulfing the entire city with one final festive bang. While tourist flock to Sevilla to participate in a week of fun, this festival is primarily for the locals. It's a time to celebrate regional traditions which are exhibited in the numerous Flamenco shows, horse parades held each afternoon, bullfights and carnival rides found on "Hell Street".
