Bun Bang Fai (Rocket Festival) – Yasothon Province

While this festival has it’s origins in invoking rain, it is now largely a rocket fest. These rockets are painted by local monks and launched into the air to invite rain…now with a modern twist. For those rockets that succeed in launching into the air, kudos to the builder. For those rockets that launch unsuccessfully, the builder is thrown into the mud! Traditional rockets were maid out of bamboo, but these days the higher the better and there are no limits to the rockets specifications. But no worries, you will find parades, singing, dancing, and partying throughout the region. Make your way to Phya Thaen Park where  most of the action happens!
