Festival Au Desert - Essakane

About two hours from Timbuktu, this small Mali town has been celebrating in the desert for ten years. With transportation a bit rough to come by, this is a choose-your-own-transport-to-the-concert adventure. Although it has grown a lot in the last ten years to include internationally acclaimed musical artists,there is a distinct feeling of raw connection with the world around you. There are no gates or doors, just artists doing what they love to do. And expect more than music; poets, dances, and camel rides frequent the event.
