Each year, in late November and/or early December, the world famous River Kwai bridge built by the Allied prisoners-of-war during WWII, becomes the focal point of a fantastic celebration. Highlights include exhibitions, historical and archaeological displays; a carnival featuring sideshows and cultural performances, rides on trains hauled by World War II vintage steam locomotives. A feature of the festival is the nightly light and sound presentation, which is a re-enactment of the bridge on the Second World War history, including an Allied bombing raid. This festival is a beautiful amalgam of history, culture and tradition and well worth your trip to the charming town of Kanchanaburi.
