Ice Watefall Festival (Sounkyo Hyoubaku Matsuri)

From: January 28 -  8:00am To March 31 - 5:00pm
Location: Japan

Known as the dissension place of the gods, sitting at the foot of the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range, lies the home of Japan's Ice Waterfall Festival. The pristine flatlands by the Ishikari River is the venue for the artistic array of colored ice pillars, ice tunnels and ice domes. Formed from February's severe temperatures, the waterfalls from the columnar-jointed cliffs freeze and construct the giant towers of ice. If you can make it to the festival on a Saturdays and Sundays, you'll be treated by a fireworks display that lights up the winter night.
