Maslenitsa - Moscow

If you take Mardi Gras or a South American Carnival and put a Russian twist on it, you get Maslenitsa. Surrounding the same tradition of pre-lent feasting and celebration, almost any city in Russia will be found celebrating this holiday. And what would a party be without pancakes? Symbolizing the sun, you will find pancakes being given to family and friends with take-your-pick toppings of jam, sour cream, or caviar.  You will also find friendly fist fighting, performing bears, bonfires, sledding, fireworks, and theater performances.
