New Years Eve – St. Petersburg

From: December 31 To January 01
Location: Russia

It may seem more like Christmas Eve, but that won’t actually be celebrated until Jan. 7th. To bring in the new year families will set up a fir tree in their living room and hope for Ded Morozh (Santa Claus to others around the world) to bring them the gifts of their dreams. After a family dinner many take to the streets singing, lighting fireworks, and of course drinking. In the last few years it has been popular to set up a skating rink in the central town square.
