Dragon Boat/Rice Dumpling Festival - Singapore

From: June 27 To June 28
Location: Singapore

The name of the festival says it all – groups of 24 men from all over the world in beautifully decorated boat race for the prize. There are races all weekend and rice dumplings are thrown into the water after the racers. This is to honor an ancient statesman that threw himself into the water at despair of the corrupt happenings in the government. Fisherman paddled out in their boats in search for him, and according to tradition, threw rice into the water to keep the fish from eating his body. Hopefully the rice dumplings will just taste good! These events are held at the Beok Reservoir, so make your way there if you are in the area.
