Camel Wrestling Championship – Selcuk

So you may have heard of bull fighting and cock fighting…but camel wrestling?! Yes, you read correctly. Every year on the third Saturday of January there is a camel parade through Selcuk and a battle of two bull camels for a mate. This is an expensive endeavor for the camel owners, but every year hundreds of onlookers show up to make bets and enjoy the festivities. Throughout the region you can find camel wrestling during the winter months. Camel wrestling is really quite a tame event, but fun and a great way to experience something with the Turkish people.
