Dussehra Festival - Kathmandu

The Hindu holiday season continues in Nepal and India with Dussehra. This ten day series of events ensues to celebrate the spiritual victory of good over evil. Thousands gather to see traditional theatrical renditions of Rama slaying the villainous Ravana. These performances are accompanied with traditional costume, makeup, poetry and dance. Today this lesson is translated to the people as a calling to defeat their inner ego and radiate peace and love. This colorful festival is unique in that it´s celebrated by Hindu´s and Non-Hindu´s.
