Dasain Festival - Katmandu

From: September 25 To October 10
Location: Nepal

This 15 day national holiday takes place during the rice harvest season and is considered the largest holiday of the year which is celebrated by all caste and creeds. This festival is filled with traditional animal sacrifices, fertility blessings, gift exchanges and sacred mantras. With the children off from school, and business´closing early, this time of the year is considered an opportunity to strengthen community ties by attending large public gatherings filled with musical celebrations and communal praying. If you want a true glimpse into timeless Nepalese culture this is the festival to witness.
